Vo2 Max - The Ultimate Measure of Fitness

VO2 Max

VO2 Max – AKA “The Ultimate Measure of Fitness” indicating the body’s utilized oxygen efficiency—can have a huge impact on your ability to fight off disease as you grow older.  This test clarifies the precise target heart rates that will enable you to exercise more effectively, with less fatigue and fewer injuries. A VO2 max test determines the number of calories burned during every level of exercise. The results would give you (or your trainer) the tools to set realistic goals and assess improvements. Thus, enabling you to become a more efficient exerciser understanding exactly what heart rate, intensity and duration would best help you achieve your specific goals such as fat burning, endurance training, or cardio conditioning. And yes, you can improve your VO2 max, thus, making it more likely to grow old without the burden of a chronic disease (e.g. Type 2 diabetes, depression, anxiety, dementia, and heart disease).

The test is conducted similarly to the RMR with a mouthpiece that is connected to a machine that analyzes your respiratory rate and volume alongside the concentration of oxygen and carbon dioxide in inhaled and exhaled air. A heart strap would be worn around your chest to measure your heart rate. We will use a treadmill to incrementally increase the intensity over time typically 10-15 minutes.
